Spring Social Season Survival - Celebrate Without Gaining Weight

If you are the host:

  • Serve a large platter of vegetables with low-fat dip instead of crackers and cheese for appetizers.
  • For a cookout, marinate and grill chicken without the skin; make ground turkey or veggie burgers, or grill seafood instead of hamburgers.
  • Grill a variety of skewered vegetables; wrap potatoes in foil to bake in the charcoal.
  • Consider serving HMR's Chili Mac recipe.
  • For dessert, serve fruit salad with low-fat yogurt as a dipping sauce.
  • Encourage your guests to take leftovers home.


If you are the guest:

  • Use extra meal replacements and fruits and vegetables to have lower calorie days before and after the event.
  • Have an HMR Shake, Entree, or piece of fruit before you go so you'll be less hungry when you arrive.
  • Bring a giant fruit salad, veggie tray, or diet sodas.


Whether you are a guest or host of a party:

  • Get in some extra physical activity the days before and after the event. (A few extra walks around the block count!) At the party, join the kids in a game to get some extra physical activity.
