When you’re trying to lose weight, it can sometimes feel like you're eating the same thing every day—which can lead to boredom with your meals. But you don't have to feel that way on the HMR diet! There are a variety of ways to enhance the HMR Shakes and add different flavorings to help you feel excited about your meals so you can stay on track with the plan. Check out our "HMR Approved" Shake Add-Ins list of low-calorie flavorings that can enhance and even completely change up the flavors of your shakes without adding a lot of extra calories.

There are so many different preparation techniques and flavorful add-ins to try, depending on what you're in the mood for, so we rounded up some of our favorites. Give them a try and let us know which ones you like best! Did we miss any?

Use a blender and add flavorings

Make a quick and simple shake by blending an HMR Shake for 1-2 minutes in a high-speed blender with water and ice. Simply add flavorings like sugar-free pudding mix or sugar-free syrup to create a whole new experience. If you’re on the Healthy Solutions plan, try adding frozen fruit like berries, frozen bananas, or a tropical mix instead of ice.

  • Make a creamier shake

To make a thick, creamy shake, blend the HMR Shake mix with less water (about 4 ounces) and crushed ice. Blend at a low speed for a longer time (about 3-4 minutes).

  • Create a filling, higher volume shake

Mix your shake with more ice and more water and blend at a low speed for a couple of minutes, then finish blending at a high speed for 10 seconds.
Bonus Tip: add even more volume and flavor by replacing the water with a can of diet soda.

Shakes taste too sweet? Try these tips to cut the sweetness

Blend your HMR Shake with ice and water and then add 1 tsp of instant coffee and/or 1 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder to cut the sweetness and enjoy a decadent Mocha Shake

Make your shakes hot

Looking for something a little different on a cold day? Try making your shakes hot! Just blend an HMR Chocolate or Vanilla Shake with 5 ounces of hot (not boiling) water and your favorite low-calorie flavorings, like this Hot Chocolate Shake recipe. Be sure to vent your blender lid to prevent overheating.

Blend your shakes into an ice cream

Use a food processor to create a creamy and decadent frozen treat! Start by adding 1 cup of ice or frozen fruit to a food processor and blend until the ice or fruit is crushed into a fine snow, then scrape down the sides of the processor. Add about ½ cup of water and blend with the ice or frozen fruit. Add the HMR Shake mix and any flavorings you like, such as sugar-free pudding mix or sugar-free syrup and mix for 2-3 minutes into a thick and creamy “ice cream” treat. This Strawberry Ice Cream recipe is the perfect dessert to enjoy at the end the day!
